Introduction

Good, beautiful day, beautiful, beautiful souls! This is Charla Anderson, host of the Charla Anderson Show~Collector & Connector of Fascinating People (& EVERYONE is Fascinating!), especially you.

Now, who’s out there writing a book? Anybody got that book coming out of their heart, into their heart? into their hands. My guest today is Kimberly Neucall, and she is a coach who helps you get that book published. And I tell you, writing the book’s the easy part because the publishing gets crazy. So we really want you to have some help with that. I can promise you it ain’t easy going through the publishing process by yourself. Today, we’re going to learn more about that, and I can’t wait.

Man, you know, let’s put these little machines down every so often and take a deep breath and be still and know. I think that’s crazy, but it’s kind of what I do every show now. And I appreciate that you joined me with that. And so here we go. Kimberly Neucall we’ve met through BRI Talks, Terri Lee Harrison, which is an amazing Christian speaker platform. So tell us who you are in this world, Kimberly, and then we’ll talk a little bit about what you’re up to.

Well, first of all, thank you so much for having me on the show today. I’m really excited to be here. I am an artist, I am an author, and I am a coach. And a lot of times, people are like, Oh, you define yourself by what you do. But first and foremost, I’m a child of God. And out of being a child of God, I have my assignments. And right now, it is reaching people through my books, reaching people through my artistry and reaching people through the coaching that I do. And so those are my current assignments. So the assignments do become part of your identity, but I’m a child of God first. And I have published six books. I’m currently working on my next two. I’m actually working on two at the same time. 

One is a fiction book. So my first fiction book is called The Armor Quest. And then my next devotional is actually called Outside the Camp, Reaching Those Alienated by the Church. And so I’m working both of those back and forth simultaneously. And I’m just really excited. And I also love helping people get out there. And you’re right, the publishing world is crazy. And so I’ve navigated that. I have worked with a mentor and now I have my own program where I work usually one-on-one with people. And I’ve helped people in three different countries get their books published so far.

Well, congrats on that. That’s awesome. So Path to Publishing is your coaching program. Yes, ma’am. I’m just going to say it here so we don’t forget, but KimberlyNeucall.com, right? And that’s K-I-M-B-E-R-L-Y and N-E-U-C-A-L-L, KimberlyNeucall.com, but it’s a U instead of a W. Anyway, I just always want people to have access to my guests. And so that’s one way. But all these books, I mean, that’s a lot of books to write and be published. And I know that your passion, typically, or really, originally, is just helping people find their purpose. And a lot of people can find that by telling their stories in their books, right?

Oh, absolutely. So many people, you get talking to anybody, oh, I’d love to publish a book. The majority of people out there have a story to tell. There’s really power in our testimonies, our stories, our lives, and what we’ve overcome. And my first book is on forgiveness. And it was a journey that I had to walk through. I had a lot of stuff just piling up and I had to walk through, first of all, forgiving others.

And that’s a good chunk of the book, how to forgive others. And what did the Bible really say about it? Because you hear so many times, oh, turn the other cheek. Unfortunately, I had a boyfriend who hit me when I was in high school. And that took on a whole different meaning than, you know, and I was told I had to be a doormat. I had to forgive. I had to restore relationships. And I thought, what did God really say? 

I want to know what the Bible really says about this. So I started digging into all of the verses on forgiveness. So I had to walk through forgiving other people. And then I had to walk through forgiving myself for allowing the misconceptions, allowing the lies to become part of my life. And then, believe it or not, I had to forgive God. And I mean, I had people say, that’s blasphemy. How dare you have to forgive God? And I had to forgive God for not living up to my expectations because I expected that I would become a Christian.

Everything was going to go right in the world. No bad was going to come to me. And I expected this perfect, easy life. I really hadn’t read about the disciples and what they went through. But I had to get to the point where I had to forgive God and say, I am sorry that I put an expectation on you that you didn’t live up to because it wasn’t your plan and purpose for my life. Now, I’m not saying the bad things were the plan and purpose for my life, but God works all things for the good of those who love him. 

And out of the bad things that happened to me, I have a closer relationship with God. So I can now look back and go, I didn’t like it. I didn’t want to walk through it. I still cringe sometimes when certain things happen around me, but I now have a closer relationship with God and I know I can run to my heavenly father. So it’s, that overcoming, but it was that power of testimony. Because when I put that book out there, I had somebody call me and I realized I have to write another chapter for it. She’s like, I screwed up.

She had a sarcastic sense of humor. And she had said, you know, just a sarcastic comment. It was taken the wrong way. And the person cut contact. And she’s like, I am so sorry. I did not mean it that way. You know my heart. And the person decided that they would not forgive her. And she’s like, is this sin going to stay with me forever? 

And we had to talk about how Jesus forgives sins. That is on them. If they’re going to hold bitterness and anger and unforgiveness, that’s on them. You did what you were supposed to do. You apologized and you have repented. And you are now more mindful of your words, you know, and how they can be mistaken. But, you know, so there’s that give and take, but it was like the impact that this book had that I wasn’t even expecting. It was freeing for me and then freeing for other people. And that book has been sold on at least two continents, probably three. So. What’s the name of the book? You might as well. Oh, that book is Quest for Peace.

Quest for Peace.

Yes.

And don’t we all need that, want that? So you’re talking about things. So this tiny, my tiny book, Candy Bar Hugs, it doesn’t take much to make a difference. This tiny book with a huge message. I have a quote in there and I quote it all the time. Unconditional love, unconditional forgiveness, not unconditional boundaries. I had to add that because I was like, oh, unconditional. And then I realized that some people might take that, that you have to stay in a bad relationship. And I’m like, no, no, no, no, no, no. And often that forgiveness is forgiving yourself and forgiving others.

Forgiving God, right? So all of that is wrapped up in my message as well. I think that’s truly massively impactful to give people the grace. And when, you know, we’ve heard it all our lives, you know, the person that carries the unforgiveness is the one that’s drinking the poison and hoping the other person will die, right? So it is a thing, though, and people do not want to. I have a situation with my daughter, I don’t get to see my grandkids. 

I said something that she was offended by, I’m like, well, I haven’t seen my grandkids since. And my son is, you know, it’s just a divisiveness that can’t, and it’s very sad and hurtful, but I just, may you be blessed, may you be blessed, may you be blessed, and hopefully they’ll come back around because, you know, if you can’t, if you’re carrying around that unforgiveness, that’s not what the Bible says to do for sure. Jesus didn’t do that. Good for you for so that you worked. That’s like a life story, just telling your way to forgiveness.

And then the second book that I did was called From Wilting to Flourishing in the Workplace. And that was again, my journey. I used to go into businesses and bring them from the red into the black, but I was not a nice person when I did it. I was in my thirties, I was single and I had something to prove. And so, I didn’t care about people. I had a job to do and I did it. And I wound up working at a company that my best friend worked at and she pulled me aside one day and said, who are you? You’re not a nice person.

She goes, the person I know that goes to church and helps everybody, you’ve come in here and you are just like, and you’re mean, no grace, no compassion. And I’m like, oh my goodness. So I dove back into the word and see, and I found a lot of examples about how to run a business and how to be apply grace and how to apply mercy and how to apply Christian values in the workplace without being overly like, I’m a Christian and there, you know, Jesus said, you know, you can apply those principles without, you know, beating people over the head with the Bible. 

And it changed my whole way of working. And I got a lot of positive feedback. My best friend will not hold back. She will call me on the carpet. And so I was able to do that. And then my next book was written during the great pandemic. And it was 365 Days to Fear Not, because during the pandemic, my mom had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, had a stem cell transplant, and then got COVID on top of it. And we almost lost her. And I’m like,

I need to read those verses. Well, the Bible does not say 365 times to fear not, it only says it about 180. But there are over 500 verses that address fear. And the biggest thing that I learned is if I fear the Lord, I keep him in his place. All of those fear the Lord verses are attached with promises. Fear the Lord, it’ll go well with you in the land. Fear the Lord and you’ll have a long life.

And I realized that if I feared the Lord, he takes care of the fear of man, the fear of failure, the fear of death. And so I put that out. Um, that’s 365 days to fear not. And that’s when people started noticing and calling me saying, Hey, I’ve never published a book before. How do you do this? You know, you’ve put out three books in a year and a half. So I basically averaged two books a year and I started working with them. The program that I had was good for what I needed, but it wasn’t good for the people that I was starting to work with. So I customized programs for them to help them get across the finish line. Because most people don’t know how to get their book out there. 

And there are so many different ways, and there’s so much confusion. You can self-publish, which is what I do. I’ve self-published through Amazon. I’m working on I have an account now with Barnes and Noble, so I’m hoping to start putting my next two books will actually go out on the Barnes and Noble platform as well. There’s Vanity, what’s called Vanity Publishing. And depending on who you talk to in the industry, they don’t like that title, but it’s basically a publishing house that you will pay somewhere between two to $10,000. 

You will pay them and they will edit your books. They will format your books. They will help you design the cover and they will put it out there. And a lot of people do not make that money back. Because I had a friend who did one and they said, you will be on number one international bestseller list. And she had 30 books because they timed the release. They did a big push. She got 30 books. It pops up number one bestseller. They screenshot it, said, here’s the proof. And she’s maybe sold 40 books and has not made anywhere near back. And this was like a $10,000 package she invested in.

Been there, done that. To you, I’ve not made my money back. So we can go there. I’m going to step back just a second because bold, fake, no fear, in the beginning of that pandemic,

I was making videos going, hey, be prepared, not scared, be prepared, not scared. Don’t walk in fear. There’s so much more going on than meets the eye. And so, you know, all of that with the crazy things that were going on. And, you know, so the workplace thing, what a great gift you have of a friend that will call you out and that you really took it.

You know, there’s an awful lot of. There’s a lot of people who wouldn’t have chosen to readjust themselves. And so yeah, that’s amazing, those books that you mentioned. And then the publishing piece, that literally is, it’s just hard. I mean, it’s just hard to figure out and find. There’s a whole lot of people out there, especially in the vanity publishing world, who will take advantage of you. 

And we found I’ve run across some, you know, and that will take that money and do bits and pieces, but not really promise and fulfill their marketing and all that kind of stuff. So I’m personally aware of that very much with my books. And then you’re so that this is where I believe I did. I love self-publishing this little tiny book, my book. It was so it was hard. It was in the middle of a move. 

It was, I mean, I don’t know how I did it back in 2017. But then the other books, Split Second Transformation, Change Your Words, Change Your Life, 31 Daily Practices, you know, that one was published by another publisher and I don’t even know if I have the rights to it. So I’m supposed to, but I don’t know. I know that there’s a lot of people that have been taken advantage of. And so I would love to know if you have considered or do you have like a, you know, you can make a course, right? Kind of create a course with an outline, even though you want to have it, or you’ve got one-on-one coaching and some group coaching, but Have you considered a course or how’s that? How does that actually look like for you?

Well right now it is one-on-one. We zoom because I’m working with I have a I’ve had clients in the UK. I’ve had clients in Canada. I have clients in the United States and I am We work one-on-one and I customize everything. I do have a booklet called Path to Publishing. It is out on Amazon. I usually use that with my workshops that I do with people. It’s a high-level overview of what you need to do first, second, third, fourth, all the way up to 12th to get your book published.

Because if you can do it in an order, it helps. And then it has some things that you will need that you don’t necessarily need in your book, but you will need when you are going out to Amazon and you’re starting to fill in like your SEO words or phrases. How would people find your book? So you have a place to put in like seven words or phrases. So you have to think, okay, if I was searching for my book, how would I search for it? 

What would I put in there? Forgiveness, 365 days, fear not. And so there’s exercises to get all of that stuff lined up so when you go to load your book, you’re not thinking, oh, I never thought about that, and you’re delayed because now you gotta figure out what it means, what do you have to do? So you already have the homework done. And then the third option is traditional publishing. And I actually met with some agents for traditional publishing. And the one girl actually wanted my first two books. I had pitched them and she loved both ideas. And she’s like, 

I want them. The problem is that I did not have a large social media following. And she was like, they want you to have at least 15,000 followers. I said, that’s so not going to happen. I’m not doing it. I’m not going to take away from writing to become an influencer because it totally defeats the purpose. But it’s called the Justin Bieber effect. Justin Bieber started as a kid on YouTube doing covers, got a million followers. His mom and him decided to put out a book about the experience, and publishing houses went, he’s got a million followers, all he’s gotta do is go, hey, I did a book, and half of them are gonna buy it, and 500,000 sold easily. And now they’re like, oh, the power of social media. So now they want you to have followers for traditional publishing. 

Unless you’re Stephen King, you know, or one of the big name authors, it’s very difficult to get a traditional contract. So self-publishing is the way to go. Now you do take on a lot of your own marketing and responsibility. But in terms of doing courses for the Path to Publishing, because like I said, I do help people, I have considered that. I’m working on developing that and doing the recordings. but I’m not at the recording stage yet because I’m still putting through like,

what would I need? And I really do better when I’m talking to somebody. So I’m like, I’m talking to a couple of my clients and friends going, hey, would you be willing to like hop on a Zoom and just sit there so that I could do this with an audience? So, because just me getting on and… Well, why not?

Why not do the course and record it? I mean, that’s a great way to do that. So, I do think that publishing is probably the way. So, do you also add in, do you teach how to set up your Amazon affiliate account or your Amazon business account or things like that where you can?

So the Amazon account to set up is really easy and it’s very self-explanatory and it depends on what country you’re in, how you have to set it up. So I don’t actually open an account and go through, click here, click here, click here, but it is very self expanded to explanatory is if you’re in the United States, you pop in there and it says, you know, give us your name, give us your social, If you have your own publishing house, you fill that in. If you don’t, you just leave that. You skip that. And they change it all the time. I had a friend who started publishing, she started the journey and she’s watching YouTube and she logs into Amazon, and then she calls me and she’s like, okay, I should have just come over. 

I’m going to pay you. Come on over. And we sat there because Amazon is always updating their fields, things. Now they have an AI thing in there that determines whether or not you use AI to help write your book. So they’ve got a lot going on.

And so that’s that’s a point, though. Do you do you say yes or I mean, do you if you need to be honest about that, I’m guessing.

Oh, absolutely. You do need to be honest about it. And what they’re looking for is to make sure that it’s not plagiarized work and things like that. Or I’ve read some of the AI content and I’ll be reading a story and all of a sudden it’ll say photorealistic character. And I’m like, and that’s AI-generated. And so it’s like, they didn’t even proofread it then. No, they didn’t edit it at all. They just said AI generated it and they threw it out there. And a lot of people from other countries, I would hope that if you’re serious about publishing, it’s not just to throw something out there, but that you would actually, you know, 

I try to work with people. I’m not opposed to using AI to help edit or, you know, Grammarly is a great tool to self-edit and things like that. So, but you know, so it changes, but you know, you enter all your information, you enter your bank account information, And it’s very simple to set it up. If you already have an Amazon Prime account, most of it’s already filled in for you. You use the same login for your Amazon Prime that you use for the KDP site.

So is it KDP? Yeah. So that is Kindle Direct Publishing, KDP, I believe. Yes. Do you also advise on the audiobooks? So I did an audiobook of this one, 25 Minutes on Audible. I say if you’re a man, just put it in the bathroom. It’s a 25-minute read, you know, but.

Yeah. No, I actually have not done Audible yet, but I have a friend who is blind, who has been begging me to do some audio, to do some readings of my own book. And because that’s how we communicate mostly. I mean, he can, he has a computer that reads to him when we are emailing or texting, whatever we’re doing back and forth. But he’s like, I just want to hear your voice again. You need to read, like, read your books. And I’m like, yeah, I’m not there yet, but.

But that’s, I mean, that’s a huge thing. And I personally, I like them read by the author, if at all possible, if you have a voice that works, you know, because it gives, it just feels right. You know, you know, they’re, they’re telling their story from their heart. Right.

So, yeah. So, so I haven’t dabbled into the Audible world yet. And like I said, I’m getting ready to, I’m hoping my fiction book will be the first book that I put out on multiple platforms. And so at that point, I will actually be buying my ISBN numbers. Right now, I’ve been using the free ones that are available on Amazon. But it’s only, if you buy an ISBN number, you can publish on any platform. You can even use a local publisher to print your books if you want to. If you use Amazon’s ISBN number, that is only available on Amazon. Now you can get multiple ISBN numbers for the same book, but I don’t recommend it. So that’s why I haven’t released my other books out on Barnes and Noble.

And so our ISBN number is on every book is pretty much required to have its own independent number and you have to buy those. You can buy, I think I bought a bunch of them, before I ever even thought about writing a book. I don’t remember what I was, somebody sold me on, but it was, well, it’s cheaper if you buy them in bulk.

If you go to buy one ISBN number, it’s like $189, but you can get like 10 of them for $250 or something ridiculous like that. And so you can get them. And that’s my next step will be purchasing a category of 10. They are not transferable. So you have them and they’re yours. You like, I, if I have 10, I cannot give you one to use. They’re all tied to my name. 

No, I don’t think it was that way when I bought mine. I think because I think I bought a bigger pack than even 10. I feel like, um, and I, I don’t even remember now it’s been a while. Uh, but that, because I, I know that some people would, I’ve got, I’ve got 10 here. Let me sell you this one for the same, you know, for the price.

Yeah, no, you can’t sell that they’re non-transferable now. I don’t know about back then and they may be grandfathered in they may now not be transferable. I’m not sure how that works. Again, it’s my first foray. But I know right now, in the United States, you buy them from Bowker, B-O-W-K-E-R. And they are it clearly states that they are not transferable. So they’re yours.

So you have to, you know, that gives you writing 10 books, right?

Now, buying an ISBN number is not the same as a copyright. If you have questions about your copyright, one of the things that you can do is actually contact, it’s the National Archives Copyright. and you can look it up. I was actually going through some of my grandmother’s effects. She passed years ago and my dad had this box and then he passed in 2011. And the box has just been kind of sitting in the basement. So when my mom moved out of the house, she’s like, you know, we really need to go through your grandmother’s things. And I said, okay. So we started going through and I actually found some sheet music from my uncle who had passed in high school.

And we found the copyright application. And so we start digging into it. And I went out to the copyright archives and his song had actually been copyrighted. So now as an heir of my uncle, we own the copyright, me and my cousins on my dad’s side. And so it was just amazing though, that this had happened, that he had actually copyrighted original music that he had written and nobody in the family knew about it. 

That’s crazy. But the copyright office is where the copyrights, if you file the copyright, now, when you write something, you automatically have the copyright. And you’ll hear people say, email it to yourself, mail it to yourself with a stamped envelope, postmark it, get it notarized, you know, just prove that, you know, you had written it on this date. I’m not sure because I haven’t looked up my own books to see if they have shown up in the copyright offices now.

With so many books being out there, I’m not sure how they’re able to keep up. And you can also look in the National Library of Congress, where they supposedly keep a copy of every single book ever written. Again, with Amazon getting flooded now, I’m not sure that that is still the case. So I know it was the case 20 years ago.

So the my books should be copyrighted by me, right? I mean, the publisher should not take my copyright. Well, unless it depends on the publisher and depends on what you sign.

Yeah. And so and that’s where you have to watch, like with vanity publishers, with traditional publishers, you know, they can include in the contract when you are signing the contract to. And I want to preface this with, I am not a lawyer. I don’t play one on TV. I am not giving legal advice. Please check with your own attorney. But depending on what’s in the contract, so you’ll hear people who say, I got my book published, but I retained the movie rights.

I retained the copyright. And then you’ll hear people who say, I published with a traditional publisher and now they’re making a movie and it’s totally not what I want, but they signed the movie rights away. And so now you’ve got a movie that looks nothing like the book you wrote, but because you signed the rights. So it’s all in the paperwork. 

You really have to review the paperwork. If you don’t know what you’re, if you’ve already signed something and you don’t know what your paperwork says, it is worth it to engage an attorney who’s versed in contract law to look at it and tell you what you have and what you don’t have. So I have one person who, you know, the copyright is up in the air at the moment and she is working with her attorney to figure it out. And so that is just the nature of the beast. So, I mean, we saw it recently with a musician, a female pop musician who did not have the copyright to her own music. 

She didn’t have the originals and she wound up rerecording everything so that she could own her own masters. Well, now that her original publishing of her music lost value because she republished. She now owns everything because they sold it to her at a very reduced rate just to get rid of a catalog they can no longer do anything with. And, you know, so there is that, and she didn’t know when she signed with them originally, she didn’t realize she was giving away her music rights, her rights to her own music. And so that’s where you really have to be careful and watch because it is a for-profit business. So, you know, you just really have to watch what you’re saying.

There’s some unethical people out there. There’s some unethical businesses and unethical scammers. They’re scammers and want to, um, you know, so my mama said, do the right thing. Take the high road. Let’s always, you know, take the high road. And, and, and I don’t, I don’t get it. I don’t get why people can’t, we’re all human beings in this world, just trying to get along. I don’t get it. Why there’s, that much selfish, evil stuff. Karma is real, and karma means you reap what you sow, right? 

So I’m not sure why there’s so much unethical stuff that does happen and it makes me it just makes me it just makes me sad you know i i was just yes talking to people coming around to sell you but insect stuff well let me tell you they’re they oversell and under deliver and it’s happened multiple times to me i’ve got oh well this one is you know and and i don’t think it’s a salesman’s fault i think it’s the uh sales training to get them out there get them a sale And it’s just one too many times I’m going to kill my own bugs, you know.

Right. Yeah, it is. It is a sales. There’s a lot of middlemen who can’t get commission off of what they do. There’s royalties. My day job, I work in the oil and gas industry. So I have an understanding of how contracts work because of the oil and gas leases. and the royalties that are paid to property owners, the profits that are made by the oil and gas company, and then that tension between the two.

Because the oil and gas companies are publicly traded companies. They have a duty to provide a profit for their shareholders. But the owners of the property want to make sure that they are getting their correct dollar amounts so they can take care of their families. And a lot of interests are so diluted down now, they really don’t make a lot of money, but it’s there, they own it. they want it. Let’s just do it.

Just be fair, be ethical, do the right thing. Take it.

Exactly. And that’s where.

And really the win-win. I’m always looking for the win-win. I had my sister, late sister, had a Century 21 office on the square in a small town in Granbury, Texas for years. Salt of the Earth pillar community did, you know, everybody knew her. And she had a win-win attitude. And it’s very rare not to have lawsuits somewhere along the line in your real estate career. And I don’t think she ever had one, or at least not seriously. So that says a lot when you have, well, it’s fine. There’s gotta be a middle ground here. Let’s find a way.

Well, I like to rely on MICA 68. Um, cause when I was going through turmoil in my brain, cause I really didn’t know who I was in Christ. I was a Christian, but I really, it was my, I grew up in a very religious church. That was, it was what you did. It’s not who you are. And, um, I always wondered, you know, what does God, what’s God’s will for my life? And it really isn’t a vocation because I once saw on Facebook, this guy, he said, somebody asked him, how’d you know it was the will for your life to be a musician? And he said, it’s not. He said, what happens if I’m in a car accident, if my vocal cords are damaged? 

What happens if my hands are damaged and I can’t play an instrument anymore? Does that mean that the rest of my life is just wandering around because I’ve lost the will of God because of an accident that I couldn’t control? And he talked about Micah 6a and it says, he has told you, O mortal one, what is good and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, to love kindness or mercy, to walk humbly with your God. Serve the Lord. That is the biggest thing. And I’m reading out of the NASB version and then Deuteronomy 10, 12. It says, now Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? 

But to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all of his ways and to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and to keep the Lord’s commandments and his statutes for which I am commanding you for your good. And then Jesus dogpiles on that in Matthew 22, 37 to 40. Jesus replied, and he’s answering the question, what’s the greatest command?

Jesus replied, love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it. Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law, the prophets, all the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments. And then we read on in other chapters, places that God has plans and purposes for our lives. People go quote Jeremiah all the time with that, for I know the plans I have for you, Philippians 2.13, to act in order to fulfill God’s good purposes. 

So we’ve got all of these verses that talk about, and it’s not tied to what we do. Now, James talks about, we’re Christians in our faith, but we show our faith through our works, through our assignments. And when you get that deep inside of you, then you want to be fair. And it’s hard when you see all of the injustices in the world, but you get to that point where it’s like, you want to help your fellow man. So that’s what my coaching program does. I don’t get rich. I have a day job because I don’t get rich. I’m not looking to soak you for the money. I am looking to be paid for my expertise, my knowledge.

I edit books for people, not my favorite thing to do, I’ll be honest, but I can do it. I am educated, I can do that, not my favorite thing to do. But the Bible says a worker is worthy of his hire. And so I think it’s a very reasonably priced program. You can a la carte it, you’ll pay more if you a la carte it here and there. I have a year program that’s discounted, and I’ll walk alongside of you with it. But I’m not the person who’s going to be like, I want to get rich off of this. That is not my goal. My goal is to help people get their stories out there. Because the Great Commission says, go therefore make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. we can reach nations with our books. 

Our books can go places we will never go and maybe missionaries can’t get to, but they can get our books online. They can get them in an e-version on their phone. They may be able to get a hard copy of it and they can learn about the Lord through our testimony. So that is where I try to get out there because it drives me nuts when I run into people that have been taken and they’re gun shy. And it’s like, no, come on people, let’s do it and let’s do it right.

That’s amazing. So many things you said I want to review, but for one thing, religion, my show is not filled with my faith but it’s not I don’t lead with my faith right it’s not like a Christian show and we talk about faith all the time here on my show and and you mentioned the word religion because religion I when I found a few years ago that religion really is bondage return to bondage it’s God in a box my God’s better than your God because I go to this church churches people by the way and instead of relationship. So when you’re worshiping a preacher or a building, you’re getting a fallacy there, and they’re falling. out there big time right now. 

And then you mentioned what you just said. So here I’m going to read part of my introduction in my Candy Bar Hugs book. It says, we’re always searching for our purpose. What if your purpose is evidenced by how you treat every single human being right in front of you? What if there is no need to search? What if you could just be your purpose in every moment? It is your character. It is your values. It is your integrity. It is your word that you speak. Your purpose is who you are.

And so I feel like so often we feel like we’ve got to be out there searching, searching, searching for our purpose. But what if we just be it? Just be the best we can be in every given situation, every given moment. Let the light shine when you step out. And so I just feel like we have a kind of a similar view on that.

Yeah, well, and I’m noticing there is a, for lack of a better word, underground movement within the church to restore the church back to relationships. Religion is rules and regulations. That’s what I grew up in. Jesus desires a relationship. The relationship was the first thing that was destroyed in the garden when Adam and Eve fell. Because God walks in and says, where are you? He wanted the relationship. And Jesus came to restore that relationship. He didn’t come to make us go back under the law to do this, this, this, and this to earn his favor. No, he just came to do that. That’s why my next book is Outside the Camp, Reaching Those Alienated by the Church. Because so often we’ve said, hey, here it is. clean yourself up, come to God.

Church hurt is real, church hurt is real. Massive amount of people are very anti-Christianity because of the way it was presented and this God in a box, you know, religion, religiosity and then And so this is a huge thing that I don’t know that it’s an, I hope it’s an overt mission that’s not just underground trying to get, because if we don’t have relationship, 

I mean, if God is love, he can’t be not love. If God is love, he’s not sitting there judging, you know, that you’re every, he loves you. He loves Hitler. He loves his creation. He doesn’t like what we do sometimes, you know, I make sure, but I don’t see that we have to, I do believe religion has just really destroyed a lot of love over the years.

Yeah, well there’s two things, two scriptures that I want to point out. The first one is that, and I’ve

Blanking on the reference because I don’t have it written in front of me. You’re wondering why I look down I have all my scriptures written down here But in this in the Bible, it says God desires that none should perish. No, not one Okay, so he wants us all to come back into relationship with him. Okay, that’s his heart no matter who you are what you’ve done, he desires you to come back into relationship with him, first of all. The other scripture, and I’m studying this out, and I’m going through, there’s, Bible Gateway has about like, 

I don’t know, 50 different versions of the Bible, and I’m planning on reading this scripture in all of them, but it’s the thieves on the cross, And I was reading it in the NIV and I was like, it arrested me when I was reading it. And I’m like, I’ve got to read this in like all the versions to see if I’m missing something. The thieves on the cross, they start by hurling insults at Jesus, okay?

And you’ve got to piece it together from a couple of different gospels, because they each focus on a different part of it. But then towards the end, okay, as we’re getting up to the time where Jesus is going to breathe his last and say, it is finished. The one thief turns to the other thief and says, this man has done nothing wrong. He is innocent. And then he turns to Jesus and he’s like, Lord, remember me. And Jesus says, this day you’ll be in paradise. 

And I’m like, wait, there’s something missing from this story. It never says that the thief repented of his sins. It says he acknowledged Jesus as the Lord, and then John 3:16, we’ve all memorized it. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever shall believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. It doesn’t say repent of their sins. It says, believe in Jesus as Lord of your life. And that has completely changed. Now I am not saying that we should not, we don’t have to repent of our sins.

Absolutely. Scripture is filled with references because that is how we become more like God and we show God on this earth by turning and not being selfish and greedy and, and not very nice. Like I wasn’t very nice. I’ve repented of that, you know, because it is not good for my character, but we’ve missed the mark in terms of saying you got to clean up to come to God. No, you don’t have to clean up to come to God.

I had loved you in your mess.

Yes. And I had read a book called The Thief That Stole Heaven. And it was talking about this and it was, it was put out by a Catholic. It was a children’s book. But it’s, you know, it’s so true. He stole heaven. He didn’t get baptized. He didn’t clean up his act. And from what I’m reading, and like I said, I’m going back, I’m going to be into the Greek and the Hebrew on this one, or the Aramaic, whatever the New Testament was written in.

It never says he repented and said, I’m sorry for what I did. He just acknowledged Jesus was Lord. And Jesus was like, you’ll be with me in paradise. And I, it’s totally, and that’s why this is outside the camp, I’m just digging into it. And it’s, it’s really like, I mean, it’s shattering things I have believed and judgments that I have had against certain people groups. And it’s like, God loves them. And who am I to stand in their way and be a stumbling block and deny them the opportunity to say, Jesus is Lord.

I think that’s an amazing perspective. I have recently gotten the passion translation. Have you heard of that one?

I have it, yeah.

The passion translation, because it has a lot of references to the meanings behind things. So yeah, amazing insight on that. God loves, and He’s not this judgment guy. He’s not sitting there, everything we do wrong, and people, oh, I’ve been so bad, I could never go to, it’s not about church, but I could never go be with God because I could, well, there’s not a There’s not a perfect person. And God uses lots of, I mean, David was an adulterous, adulterer and, you know, murderer. And I mean, you know, nobody was sinless. Right.

So he’s referred to as a man that’s after God’s own heart in Hebrews. So, you know, it’s, yeah, it’s really been changing my perspective because the church I grew up in was very judgmental.

Me too, and i was that’s what I was used to and so now it’s like it’s shattering this and it’s so freeing. I mean yes, i know I’m loved, and I don’t I mean if I do something wrong. I guess it’s my results, I get the backlash, but god’s not to stop loving me. And i’m not i’m loved i’m loved exactly who and where I am right this second this I end my show with this a whole lot of the time I just want you to know you’re loved exactly who and where you are right this second There’s nothing you can do to be loved more or less by god Or me. I mean, I just want you to know you are loved and I say that I would say, you know, probably 30-40% of my of my shows, I have something about that in them just because I want people to know that nobody’s perfect and we can’t be. We can be loved. in our sin. 

We can be loved in our wrongdoing. And so that’s, I speak that a lot. So it’s interesting that you speaking that. And my daddy turned very, very, very, very more and more and more fundamental as he got older and wrote treatises about not having instrumental music and not having, I mean, I’m like, Daddy, oh, the church, you know, I said, church is lowercase and it’s people it’s not a name on a building you know so anyway he just got more narrow as he got older and i was like yeah there because god is love he can’t be not love that’s he loves you exactly yeah So we’re coming close to the end of the time. 

I know it always goes so fast. Oh my goodness, yeah. So we’ve gone all over the place, publishing and Jesus and the cross and all of these amazing messages, but we’re connected. And my show is about overcoming and about offering hope and about how, you know, making a difference and how, you know, what, sum it up, sum it up, what you, where people can find you, what you can offer and your last words here. Let’s, it gets down to the bottom line.

Wow. To sum it up, first of all, you can overcome. Okay. Jesus overcame. We overcome through the blood of the lamb. Um, your testimony and your words have power. They’re the power of life and death. And if you have a story to tell, because it’s going to help somebody else overcome their issues, by all means, do it, do it, get writing, grab a notebook, grab a computer and just do it. Some people write it and publish it on Facebook or Instagram. You can do that. Just get it out there.

Tell your story. Everybody’s got them. And some people will, I have a quote, I don’t have it right here, I don’t think, but as you know, some people will only hear the truth the way you tell it. They will only hear the way you say it. We speak differently. Somebody’s going to hear it.

me say the same thing you’re saying in my way, and respond, you know, oh, you know, they hear it, whereas they may not hear it the same from you, you know, so even if we say the same words, it, it’s not, it’s our story, we we’ve got to share, it’s required, I think it’s almost a requirement that we get out there and get people, you know, talking about that. 

And so we can serve our fellow man, giving them place to have a voice and that’s what my show does here so Kimberly I’m so grateful for you thank you so much for coming and being with us today you know we’ll find I want you to like and subscribe my channel on YouTube I’ve got a a 350 or something shows and videos out there and just time to start asking people to look at them, right? And so, yeah, it’s kind of a slow, slow thing.

And there’s so many moving parts, you know, where I’m 71 years old, you know, we’re just, you know, a lot of things, we’re just trying to, to make a difference where we can. And I know that you are making a big difference where you can, and I’m with this, helping people get the self-published out and get the word out that there are, you know, there are people that are not as ethical and are kind of scammers in that publishing world. So be discerning, be discerning. Absolutely. There are some snakes that make you think they’re not. 

My sister once, you know, she used to say, you know, con men have only themselves to sell. and their masters at it. So we’re just going to close with that. And thank you so much for joining me today. And this is the Charla Anderson show.
