Introduction

Good, beautiful day, beautiful, beautiful souls! This is Charla Anderson, host of the Charla Anderson Show~Collector & Connector of Fascinating People (& EVERYONE is Fascinating!), especially you.

You're not going to believe what happened. 30 minutes before showtime, my guest today cancelled. I met a man on Monday who spoke at the Ziegler Monday morning devotionals, and we've been in conversation, and he didn't have to wash his hair, so we have a last-minute guest. It's Dr. Stan Harris, also known as Dr. Breakthrough. Cannot wait to introduce you. 

But first, 

We're going to take a 22-second mini vacation, our little break, seven seconds of calm coming in. Hold for four seconds and breathe out gratitude. So here we go. Let's do some breathing. Breathe in calm. Hold. Relax, release. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Wow. So I think we should put our phones down and do that every so often throughout the day.

So Dr. Breakthrough, oh my goodness, I heard you on Monday morning. I was blown away by your message. And then I text messaged you and we have a conversation. I'm just so blessed and gratified that in a very last minute, I was like, I need a guy because I don't need to frou-frou anybody. And I asked, and you said yes. And I have a saying, when intriguing opportunities present themselves and you say yes, things show up. And you showed up. I'm so excited. So tell us about yourself. And I know you've an intro intro if you want to do that, or you can. Your choice.

Awesome. Well, hey, well, yeah, we'll do the intro. But first, I just want to thank you for having me. Thank the Lord for opening up the opportunity. And I'm excited for your listeners. I believe they're going to get great value. You and I had a great conversation the other day. And when you talk about being thankful, so when we took that 22nd breath. So every day I wake up, first of all, this is my 775th month on God's earth. And as of today, I've had 23,000 wake-ups this morning.

I always do this. I thank you, Lord. It's my 23,982nd day on his wake-up list. See, we go to sleep, but God wakes us up. And there's about 150,000 people they tell me that didn't wake up. But guess what? You and I were on that wake-up list, right? My beautiful, incredible mom only had 18,065. So, who am I that I would get 23,982? And then when I had COVID and stuck on that machine and everything, so I started counting, I found out the average person has about 20,000 they get breaths per day. And so as of this morning, I thank the Lord, it's about 471,571,580,000 approximate free breaths.

The government hadn't even figured out how to tax me on it yet. And my lovely wife, Maddie, in color by ABCD, my adorable brown caramel delight. We've experienced 5,545 days of what we call breakthrough love. And breakthrough love is a love committed to breaking through any barrier that would try to hinder our relationship. So yes, I'm very grateful. Got a lot to be grateful for. And with that said in mind, I'll give a little intro and let the intro do the talking for us. And again, thank you for having us. Three already. That's impressive. Well, hey, thank you. It's a privilege and a pleasure, a treat and a treasure, a joy beyond measure to be with you on this wonderful, wealthy, wisdom-filled Wednesday. And I get to talk to Charla.

Oh, and I, you know, I love that. I learned I earned all this wisdom, wisdom, silver hairs, the hard way. Right. So that's a beautiful introduction. And the people that listen on because it's ultimately more people will listen on podcasts. Right. You might say a couple of those things that you're in there. You're a world-class 10th-degree black belt.

Grandmaster, yes.

Wow. And I mean, that takes just a minute of discipline, right?

Just a little bit. Just a little bit.

A little bit of discipline. And there are accomplishments along that line. You're a pastor. You're a preacher. You're an author. 

Not motivational. World's first breakthrough speaker.

Happily married, eight children.

Eight children. By the way, you don't live in Texas, right?

Just north of Dallas. You know, everything's bigger and better in Texas. So we had to come to Texas. And we had five grandchildren with two just the other day. My oldest daughter and our daughter, who was told she could never have children, they said with fertility treatments, there's a slight, slight, slight, slight possibility. And she made an appointment. Her job was to take care of it.

So made an appointment to take that slight, slight, slight chance, right? But before she could get to the appointment for them to set them up with the doctor, she had a little flu, so she had to go see the other doctor. And that doctor said, oh, you got the nine-month flu, and you're pregnant with twins. And we call this 2025, the year of double grace. Five is the number of grace, double grace 25. So just two twins were born the other day. It's trinity and true. So we went from five to seven.

Oh, my. That really gives me chills, because she got pregnant before she went through the procedures to get pregnant. So God's timing is perfect, and thats an amazing story.

And they said even with the treatments, it was a slight, slight, slight. But she wanted to take whatever slight chance there was. And before she could get to do it that way, you know, hey, look what got her.

You know, I have, there's a lot of my stories about, or my shows about overcoming and people talking about where, you know, where they've been, where they come from. And miracles are everywhere. and every day, and just breathing. Like you said, I have a mentor, Benson Agbatorgo, a mentor, and he says, keep breathing free oxygen. He's like, and every day he sends something out, and keep breathing free oxygen. And I always add, on this side of the dirt in Texas. But that is a divine. Those children have no choice but to be, they're gifts, right? They're gifts. What a blessing. 

I can't even imagine. What a beautiful story. And I'm grateful you told me that. So here we are. And when I said we just met, and I listened to your testimony on Monday morning, and by the way, every Monday morning at seven to eight is Zig Ziglar's Monday morning devotionals. Been going on for over 40 years. And with the gift of Zoom, I don't have to drive up there. So that's a huge thing. And speakers, I've spoken. They even let me speak, right? So there's an amazing audience out there for those of us that want it. And there's no charge. You just get to be in that space. Faithful people who gather on Monday morning, what Zigler always said, start the week off right. So that was awesome. Thank you. Oh, you've got something else.

Yeah, remember years ago, like you said, it was physical. And you'd have to go there and now through Zoom. And that's the craziness of technology, right? Remember before COVID, a lot of us silver hairs weren't on Zoom. And now, everybody's on Zoom now, right?

I thought about that, too, the gift of Zoom. Because if I had had a live, I mean, really, I think that that's one of the gifts of COVID. And sometimes it's a curse. I don't want to get Zoom fatigue or whatever. Yeah, I think it's been a massive gift for those of us to connect all over the world, right? And I'll just say, you just popped up a picture of you and Zig Ziglar. And I've got pictures of me and Zig Ziglar, and that's kind of fun.

Oh, too. They look amazing. What did you say? I said, I saw those and you look amazing in those.

That was fun. If you'll, after this, if you'll shoot me those pictures, I'll try to add them in the description. We'll see. I won't, my BA's. So, yeah. So this, to me, you've accomplished so, so, so much. Your legacy is definitely, your legacy is all about Zigler. He always asked me, have you written your book yet? Have you written your book yet? Have you written your book yet? And he asked that to everybody I heard. And so I said, here is, Kingdompreneur, I'm showing up the book that I received in the mail yesterday after, I mean, he said overnight, I got this book, Kingdompreneur by Dr. Stan Harris, also known as Dr. Breakthrough. And I'm showing that on the screen, but.

Hey, by the way, I have one too.

And in exchange for that, I'm going to send him my two books. We're going to have so much fun. And this tiny little book, Big Message, Candy Bar Hugs, It Doesn't Take Much to Make a Difference and Split Second Transformation, Change Your Words, Change Your Life, 31 Daily Practices. You know, every word matters. And that's what that's about. So we are kind of just having fun getting to know each other. And who knew? 

But I like because I tend to talk about overcoming and hope and things like that. You've got so many credentials. You probably have the wall of fame like Ziegler did with all the people that we've gotten to impact or talk to and impact us, our mentors. So I know that you have a few of those. special people you want to acknowledge that have made you who you are or helped influence your life?

Sure. Well, I jokingly tell people my three main early mentors were Muhammad Ali. And when you talk about words, by the way, you know, float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. That's why they call me Dr. Stan Lee. However, I mean, seriously. But I do want to drop on everybody, just pause for a moment here. There's one quote that he said is the most outside of the Bible, the most powerful thing that's affected my life. And the danger is, Charla, so many people only heard the first part.

I mean, it's good, but that's not even the powerful part. There's the other part that people leave out. Here's what he said. He said, I said, and you said words, so I thought you'd love this. He said, I said, I was the greatest. But that's not the best part. Here's the best part. A long time before I ever believed it. What? In other words, he said, I started saying, what I wanted, even though I didn't believe it, but I figured if I said it long enough. I said it loud enough, of course, he understood our scriptural principle, faith cometh by hearing, you know, hearing by the word, but even our own word, because we've got to be careful because we're hearing. Sometimes we're programming ourselves with our words. As you mentioned, the scripture even says, by thy words I shall be justified, and by thy words I shall be condemned. So, death and life are in the power of the tongue, which by the way, Incidentally, it said death.

Why did it say death versus light? Because it's easier to say something negative than something positive. But this man said, I wanted to be the greatest. I didn't believe I could, but I figured if I just kept saying it, maybe I would start hearing myself. Maybe I start believing it. And once I believe it, I would start behaving that way. And of course, he's been dead now and for years. But guess what? People still refer to him as what? The greatest. Right? So again, thou shalt, Job 2220, thou shalt decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee, and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

And so it's, our words are so important. So I got that. So Muhammad Ali and then Bruce Lee, of course, that's where the martial arts part, right? And this little skinny Chinese guy that was despised among the, how would you say, the mainstream America. I don't know if you know this, But he developed the movie. Well, and before I get to that, but the Green Hornet and Kato, well, he was so good that they wanted to put him in, but they didn't want people to see he was Chinese.

That's why he had to wear a mask. See? As if we couldn't figure that out. But anyway, that's where the mask came from. But guess what? He wouldn't let that deter him. He kept on. And then he gave them the idea about a movie Kung Fu. But again, they were so entrenched in their own racist mentality thoughts that they couldn't do that with a Chinese person. So they got David Carradine who didn't know any Karate or Kung Fu and used him to do it. But it's okay. So he went back to China and anyway makes a long story short he became a movie hero there. Then all of a sudden he said we brought him back here. And of course, he's been dead now for decades.

But he's like a super, super icon now and for many, many people. But again, so my early mentors, are you ready? Like I said, Muhammad Ali, Bruce Lee, and here's the best of them all, my mommy. But my mom raised five boys. She's a single parent mother. And she raised five boys, not hit. You know, boys, we could be not hit sometimes, right? And just, and I'll never forget. We grew up in the hood of the hood. You got the hood, but then you got the hood of the hood where people in the hood don't go down to, right? And so we were, I mean, it was terrible. It was like we moved about every time rent was due, it seemed like. And sometimes we didn't have, mom didn't have money paid for rent, and we'd have to move in, all of us move in with my grandmother. But at any rate, I just remember one day, I got, Charla,

I just wanted attention. And I didn't know I'd do it by being good, so being bad got me attention. And so I got in a lot of trouble in school, and I was about to get kicked out of public school. Now, you're pretty bad when you're about to get kicked out of public school, right? So I don't know how, but something about the power of a woman when she makes her mind up. Somehow, mom got us in Catholic school, private school. Like, you can't even afford a place. How are you getting me? She got us in Catholic school. And I end up getting kicked out. And by the way, the training for martial arts, we did push-ups on our knuckles. Well, my knuckles got preconditioned because of those nuns would beat your hands with rulers and knuckles.

But I get kicked out of Catholic school. I come home. By the way, my mom worked two jobs to take care of us. Now, here's the thing. She could have taken welfare, and she deserved it. I mean, there's nothing wrong with something to get you some help over. But here's the thing. She didn't want it, but she worked two jobs to take care of us, right? I just want y'all to understand that this woman, I mean, listen, she could have just been sitting on the couch collecting a check, whatever. No, she went out to work, I mean, working her fingers to the bone for us. And so here's the thing. And she was home sleeping. I came home, and she woke up. She was on the couch trying to get a couple hours of rest. And she's like, Sam, boy, what are you doing home? And I was like, I got kicked out of school. You ain't never seen rage of a, what's his name, the guy, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Tyler Parrott. with a black mother, single-parent mother. She's like, boy, what in the world? I'm doing everything I can.

I don't have a man help. I mean, she's just going over. I don't have a man help me. I'm doing the best I can. Boy, you about to drive me to an early grave. And then all of a sudden, this is, this is, this is, and I wasn't the, she wasn't a Christian. I wasn't a Christian then, but this is the grace of God. All of a sudden, something hit her and she stopped. And my tough mom, she had to be, she had five boys, she started crying. Never seen my mother cry before. In the middle of her tyrant and rage, she started crying and she changed her whole composure and she said, but, and with tears coming down her eyes, she said, but I know one day, you're gonna make me so proud of you. And my heart broke. It just like ripped in pieces. I'm like, I mean, because my whole thing growing up is nobody cared. I'll tell you more about some of the stories that happened. But if it was anybody who cared, it was my mom. I'm like, the only person that really cares. And I just broke her heart. And I said to myself then,

I will never get in trouble in school another day in my life. And to God be the glory from that. I wasn't even a Christian. I wasn't even a believer yet. But why is this happening? A believer, I mean, we went to church like every once in a while, like Christmas or Easter, you know? Every once in a while. But anyway, and so watch this. Never got in trouble again. And end up graduating the top of my class in high school. Never even thought I'd make it in high school. you know, to high school. Top of the class, end up going to college, graduate top, who's who, college universities, dean's list, all that kind of stuff. Then they asked me to stay and do postgraduate work and be a professor so they would actually pay for me to get some additional training. I would be a professor at the same time. And I mean, I'm like, this is me. And I don't forget.

And I'm traveling in the meantime in evangelism. I'm doing my martial arts stuff as well. And I've got all this stuff going on. And my mom was with me one time. She came to hear me. And she's like, boy, she's like, I'm so proud of you. And here's what she said. I can't even believe. the stature of man that you became, she said, I'm just honored to know a man of your stature. And I was like, Mom, come on now. She's like, no, serious. She's like, look at this. And by the way, nobody in my family had ever been to college. And here I was graduating, and now I'm a professor. Anyway, and so I said, Mom, you don't even understand it. You are just reaping the results of the seeds that you sow.

She's like, boy, what you talking about? I said, mom, do you remember when I was a little boy? Remember when I got kicked out of school and you was yelling and screaming? You stopped. I said, you started crying. And when I saw you cry, I realized I was breaking your heart. And you told me I was going to make you proud. And I said to myself, I will never get in trouble in school again. And I said to myself, I'll die if I have to to make my mom proud of me. And I said, so you planted the seed. It fell in good soil. You're now reaping the harvest. So mom, thank you for the seeds you planted in my life.

That is, oh, I've got tears. Chills and tears. So special. And had you not told her that decision and that moment before? Or was that was the first time? Oh, my gosh.

In my heart. I just purposed in my heart.

Wow.

So what it would be to tell you the story, I got started in martial arts partly because of my mother. But you let me know when you're ready for that one. That's that's the crazy.

I don't think you have any lack of stories. You got so much to say.

True stories, by the way, not just that.

Yeah. True stories. But I want to ask you something that came to me. Was there, so you were a troublemaker because you needed attention, but there, I believe in every one of us, vast majority of us end up with this five-year-old, five to seven-year-old terrified human being inside of us. And it's almost impossible for that to dissipate, to go away without truly just receiving the gift of who you really are. And so many people walk around with this facade just covering that terror, the feel that I will never be hurt like this again, or I'll never let anybody get to me again. So we build these layers. So did you get that five-year-old child overcome, or does he ever show up again?

He wasn't five, he was six.

Six. Well, as I said, five to seven. So it's usually nearly all of us have something that happened. Something happened.

You're spot on. I was like, how does she know my story? But yes, my dad, I was born in an Army hospital. So my dad was in the Army. And unfortunately, and this is amazing, my mom would never tell me. I only found out after I got older and got a car and found out where he lived. But anyway, but my dad and mom left. My dad left when I was three. So I was three, another brother two, another one at the time. There's five altogether now, but three, two, and one. And so my mom moved back to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where she's from. That's where I grew up. But I was born in Baltimore. And anyway, so three years of age. So that was a tragic situation. And my dad never came home, never called, never sent Mama Don to help raise us. Nothing. Just disappeared. And so a lot of men, especially young boys, want that dad.

And there's a certain type of personality that's really. And I was that one. Like my other brothers, it just seemed like it didn't matter to them. It was like, we don't care about that guy. And I would always like. I want to know about my dad. And so I made up my mind also, when I got old enough, I was going to find him, whatever. And I would always say, well, what happened to you and dad, mom? And she's like, whenever you find him, you can ask him. No bitterness ever came from her. She never told me about how wrong he did her. She never said that. She said, one day, you ask him, right? Make a long story short, I'm in the hood of the hood. And a teenage gang, I'm out in the middle of the field playing. I'm a six-year-old boy. And I look up. And Charla, you know how your body gives you a signal. Something terrible is about to happen. I was so afraid. I froze in my tracks. Like, you know, I mean, I was like, I couldn't even move. I was like, just the look they had on their faces, I knew I was in trouble.

And I'm out in the middle of the field. There's nobody around. And so that's what I teach people now. Instead of allowing fear to capture you, you can allow fear to catapult you. Because, I mean, I've been afraid when a dog chased me. I could outrun Usain Bolt, right? So sometimes fear, you could use it properly, right? But this time, instead of it catapulting me, and I was screaming, hollering, or trying to get for help, no, no. I just was froze. And it got grim. Hit me in the stomach. Bam, knocked the air out of me. Now I'm a six-year-old boy. You know, this teenager. I'm trying to breathe. I don't know if you ever had to, those of you listening, if you ever had to air knock down you before. I'm trying to breathe. And these teenagers start beating all over me. And so now I'm crying out, Mom, help! And they're beating all over me, literally. Without exaggerating, they pick me up and they slam me on the ground. And I'm a six-year-old boy screaming for pain, crying. They start stomping on me like I'm a ant or a roach. And then they start kicking me all over in my face and my body. And I'm bleeding from everywhere you can bleed. And again, I'm a six-year-old boy. I'm like, and I would, I mean, I'd never done, I hadn't done anything to anybody. I'm just out there just minding my own business. And literally, they flipped me over on my face, so face up.

And one of them took a great big old bucket of tar, and they poured it on my face. They poured it on my body. This is 1966. Took a bunch of feathers, and they threw them on me and literally left me out in the middle of a field to die. I was a six-year-old boy. I was beaten. I was battered. I was bloody. I was incomprehensible. And thank God, though, the tar wasn't hot, but it was thick, so I almost suffocated because I couldn't breathe. And I kept trying to pull myself out of my mouth so I could breathe. Somebody finally got me to the hospital, got me taken care of. But I remember. I remember consciously. saying, I'm going to learn how to protect myself. So this has never happened again. Because when you're a victim, when you've been victimized, and what happens is, and maybe sometime we'll get into this, but I've got a training of five things.

You got what's called victimized, you got victims, victimizers, and then you got victors, but then you got volunteers. And so anyway, but what happened was, You know, it was terrible and it threw me in this terrible spiral where I just felt like, man, nobody cares. Like, why would this happen to me? And what did I do? And then, you know, you hear sometimes, you dumb kid, you never amount to me. And so you start, you know, you start internalizing everything. You start, and then everything was, and then I started getting picked on and bullied like daily in school. And then I went through being sexually abused as a kid, you know, and sexual abuse is always terrible, but especially for, you know, for, for a male. And, and, and, well, and I shouldn't say this, it's terrible for everybody. Okay. Just, but, but the sexual abuse, but, but, but especially back in that day, nobody talked, it was never talked about. Right. even among females.

I mean, and so the physical abuse, one of my mom's boyfriends beat me with a steel choker chain for a dog. I mean, my whole life was just like, nobody cares. And like you said, so I built this hard shell that I could protect. So it was like I had a chip on my shoulder, but I would knock that chip off. I was like this angry, raging, and as a matter of fact, I was so angry and so incensed. As a matter of fact, It was so devastating in life. I tried to commit suicide on two occasions before I was even... I tried to take my life, I should say the proper way, but un-life myself. Is that the new word to use? Whatever. But before I was even 12 years of age because I was in a hopeless situation. It was like a terrible situation. But my mom won a free month of karate lessons.

But again, I remember, and I always tell, I call it a Popeye moment. And the Popeye moment is, remember old Popeye, I've stands all I can stands, and I can't stands no more, right? And all of a sudden, now again, people like to say coincidence. I had a 80 year old mentor that would put it this way. Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous. Like, it's only God that—I was scheduled for a year to speak for the Ziegler thing, right? And then for you to inbox me for us to connect and you to express interest in the book and for the office to get it out that fast that you already got—I mean, and then next thing you know, there's a cancellation. You're calling me—see, God, He had this all planned, right? Before the—so anyway, but I'm saying I said that, and my mom won this

month of karate lessons. Shotokan karate. I'll never forget it. And now my brothers, none of them interested. And I'm watching, they're kicking and screaming and punching and blocking and hollering. And I'm like, man, this is great. And when her free month ran out, Charla, she was so serious, she started paying her money. So every month, now free is good, but when you're serious, you're willing to invest. And so she got better and better till one month she got too good. So you got to ask me what's too good.

What's too good in this situation?

Wow. Her and her boyfriend got in a fight and mama knocked him out. Charla, when I saw my five-foot-one mom knock out a six-foot-one guy, I was like, I don't know what this karate stuff is, but dude, this is going to be my ticket, right? And so I got started in what's called Isshinryu karate. But make a long story short, I gave it everything I had, worked out four hours a day, you know? And I mean, because it's like, this is it, man. And eventually became the champion. But the crazy thing is, I wanted to learn how to fight, and I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no. And I said, no, I want to learn.

He said, no, we can't teach you self-defense until we first teach you self-discipline. They said, if we teach you self-defense without self-discipline, you'll be like an uncontrollable weapon. You'll destroy yourself and others. So I said, OK, I don't know what the self-discipline stuff is. Whatever it is, if I got to learn, I got to learn. As long as I get to the fighting part. And Charla, the self-discipline is what changed my life. And I mean, it's just amazing. And then it wasn't long after that, you know, I got saved, became a Christian in the Lord. Here's where God just, he has such a sense of humor. Because I'm like, okay, I don't need this martial arts anymore. Now I got the, I mean, I had great success with the martial arts, became tri-state champion.

But I don't need this anymore now because I got the most important thing, you know what I mean? And so I can throw this down. And then my pastor comes to me. I'm just a new Christian. And he says, hey, I'd like you to pray about something. I said, pastor, I don't mean harm, I'm not a religious guy. I didn't grow up in church. I said, in Japanese, I mean, a Japanese sensei means teacher, instructor. So when our sensei, he just tells us, we just do it. So you're like my spiritual sensei. So I don't need to pray about it. Just what do you want? I'll do it. He said, well, I want you to do your martial arts demonstration, give your testimony.

And we can advertise it. And people will come in from the inner city. And I think we'll get a lot of young people. And I think men, strong men, will want to see you breaking the boards and bricks and laying on nails and all that kind of stuff. And I was like, OK. And I went home. I said, now, Lord, I'm really confused. I just told you I'll give this stuff up. And now the guy who's my spiritual leader is asking me to do it in church. Now, this is 1976. This is 20-something years before the power team and all that kind of stuff, right? And so I'm reading my Bible trying to figure out what? I don't understand this." And I'm reading Exodus chapter 4, and the Lord says to Moses, what's in your hand? He said, a rod. He said, throw it down, turn it to a snake.

The Lord said, now pick it up, and turn it to a rod again. It's like the Lord said to me, the only thing you had in your hand, young man, was martial arts. And you were willing to drop it, give it up for me. Now I'm asking you to pick it up and use it for my glory. And so now, by the grace of God, I've been in all 50 states, 28 countries, breaking boards and bricks, preaching the gospel, getting men and tough teenagers that wouldn't listen to anybody else to come, and then demonstrating to people. Although things are hard, with enough commitment and with a mentor, we can break through those things. And so all I can say is the Lord's good. He's better than that.

Oh, my gosh. This is a fire hydrant. God, there's a book called When God Winks, and I call those, you know, all of these coincidences, then miracles are everywhere.

God-cidents. God-cidents.

God-cidents. Yes. I mean, tell you, there's so many, but just people that don't believe in that, I can't fathom because when you miracle, I mean, taking a breath is a miracle. I mean, literally, how do we, And I typically will say, we talk about faith all the time on my show. It's not about religion. It's about relationship. It's not about God in a box in a church. It's about relationship. And you are demonstrating that so amazing. Oh my gosh. So that story about that six-year-old makes me just Just so sad, right? 

So we, but we all, that's a really big overcoming. And we all are, we all are overcomers. And we all, now your job is to offer the hope on the backside of it, because, you know, angry young men become into who you are in this world now and the difference you're making. It's beautiful, totally beautiful.

Charla, you probably heard it said before, but hurt people hurt people. But hurt people who have been healed can now be used to help heal others. And so that's what I've been doing with my life. And when those people came by, I was a 15-year-old, I'll never forget, it was February 14th, Valentine's Day, 1976. And I lived at 2217 North 4th Street in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. And they came by, they were knocking on doors, and the pastor had said, hey, we send missionaries to Africa. He said, what about the African-Americans that live down in the inner city? He said, we ought to go down there in the roughest place, and we ought to go down there and love those people and tell them the gospel. And so imagine these white folks.

Here's a man and his wife and a teenager in one of the poorest, deadliest areas in Harrisburg. And so Bill, the teenager, says to Charla, he said, man, he's like, it's starting to get dark, and this is a bad neighborhood. We got to get out of here. But Charla says to him, I just feel led of God that we should go to one more door. a house was at one more door. And when they talked, when they said, young man, if you died, do you know for sure you go to heaven? I was like, no. I said, do y'all know? If you're going to heaven, they said, yeah. I said, could you show me? They said, yeah. I said, well, come on in. And they're looking at each other like, Like, is this for real? And they didn't know that I was coming back from a martial arts tournament the week before. And I just won this championship. And I was so arrogant and proud of myself. Because again, I'm the little kid that had nothing. They beat me.

By the way, when I joined the martial arts, They laughed at me. They used to call me Mr. Baboon. I'm not exaggerating. I used to trip over my own feet. And I still remember when I first started, I still remember telling them, y'all better laugh at me now, because one day I'm going to whoop all y'all. I mean, I was so just, mm, right? And that was a wrong attitude. But the day did come, by the way, when I did. As a matter of fact, before my grandmaster died, he said, look, when I die, he said, Dr. Stan Harris, we call him Dr. Breakthrough, he will inherit my belt and this whole entire system. He will continue my my legacy, and that was another one of my greatest joys. And by the way, it took me 25 years of me witnessing to him that he would not come to Christ, and finally he came to Christ. And I was able to actually preach his funeral as well, his ongoing ceremony. But Charla, when they were showing me about the Lord and they came to Romans chapter 5, verse 8, I just think that somebody has to have this today. And they, because they showed me I was a sinner. So you got to know you're a sinner.

And you got to know the wage of sin being separated. I said, man, I'm already know I'm a sinner. Matter of fact, I'm afraid I'm going to hell. I already know that. The only thing I ever heard was you got to be good. And I know I'm not good. So ain't no hope for me. And they said, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, there is. But when they show me, because again, oh, that van, I was going to say, let's make it quick. When the van and my teacher, Sensei, is getting drunk and he's swerving, driving through the Pocono Mountains on the highway, and the only way he could drive, he had his window roll down, and he's looking at the guardrail in the middle of the highway. He's drunk in a super foggy. You couldn't see five feet in front of you. And I remember saying, Sensei, stop the van. We might wreck and die. This guy, two seats from me, used to break bricks with his head. And you never saw somebody, you know, lights on, nobody's home, a few fries short of a Happy Meal, you know?

I mean, the guy was good to bar charge, but we was like, this dude kind of weird, right? And he's like, man, if we die, we just die. I was like, what is he? I got thinking, I was only 15. I thought you had to get old like my mom or somebody before you thought about dying. And I remember saying to myself, man, if I die, I won't be able to break any boards or bricks or lay on nails and do all that. If I die, am I going to be separated from God? I mean, I want to go to heaven, but I don't know how to get there. And so a whole week goes by, and I'm thinking about this. And here are these people knocking on my door. But when it, Charla, when he said Romans 5, 8, it broke me. But God.

commended His love toward us, and that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." And I remember him saying, you know, if you'd have been the only person in the world, you'd have still sinned. I said, you can't mean that. And he said, yeah, but I'm the little kid. I'm the guy that was like out because I was so hard. I was like, nobody cares about me. Again, if anybody was my mom, but she worked two jobs, so she was never home, right? But it's like, nobody cares about me. I don't care about anybody else. And I'm going to learn how to beat everybody up in the whole wide world. And so the martial arts, because they used to say about me, the guy is the nicest guy you want to meet till you meet him. And martial arts, he'd like half kill you. But that's where all my rage was, right? And now all of a sudden, it's like broken. It's being melted away. But it's like the arms of God wrapped around and said, I've been trying to love you, letting you know this your whole life. And when they said that to me, that was all it took.

I was like, man, I'm ready. What do I got to do? I mean, like, I don't even deserve to be, like, nobody loves me. And they said, no, he does. He does. And so I committed my life to like, the whole world needs to hear this message. So I remember saying, I was a 15-year-old teenager. I don't know if you want me or not, but I want to go all over the whole world and tell people that you love them. And you can, I mean, you can change your life. As a matter of fact, when I told my mom, Charla, let's tell you how bad it was. I said, mom, mom. I said, I became a Christian. I got saved. And she looked at me. She said, boy, I don't know what happened to you, but I give you two weeks to rub off. Sharla, I did not know my mom when she was a teenager. dated a guy in the church who was supposed to be a minister.

Now remember, the devil's trick is opposition by imitation. So if God's got ministers, the devil's got some. If God's got churches, the devil's got some, right? And so it was a date rape situation. And the church, back then, a woman was sent away. She ended up getting pregnant out of that date rape situation. And the church side believed him. He lied on her. And so she said, I'll never step the doors of a church again. Because we never went to church. We went to church as kids, to that Catholic church once in a while, because we were part of the school. And so I said, I can never figure out why my mom never wanted to go to church. But hey, you're a kid. And it's like, that's not my business, right? And then I was like, why would my mom say, boy, whatever happened to rep off? Because she just thought all that was hocus pocus stuff. And when my life started changing, one day I never forget, like, you know,

because I started washing the dishes and cleaning the house. One day I went to my youth, my youth pastor invited me over. And his house was, first of all, I said, you really want me? Because I'm still going through this. Like nobody cares about me other than God, right? And my mom. And he said, yeah, why don't you come over and spend the weekend? Charla, I went to his house. I said, you got grass. He's looking at me like, uh, I'm talking about grass and lawn. I got to be careful these days, right? He's like, yeah, what are you talking about? Charla, his house was clean. His wife's calling him honey. She's calling him sweetheart. I'd never seen that before. This big old strong martial arts, breaking bricks, break boards, laying on nails. You know, I let people punch me in the stomach and chest as hard as they can and just laugh at them.

And I went to tears streaming down my face. And I was like, dear God, if I could grow up and have something like this one day. Because I'd never seen a decent marriage. Nobody where I lived was even married, right? Nobody even had a dad. It was like, you know what I mean? And so I went home and I started cleaning up the house. I was like, wait a minute. So I'm cleaning up the house every day. Of course, my brothers ain't loving it, right? And my mom, she's like, She's like, boy, what's going on? What happened to you? And I was like, mom, it's not what, it's who I'm trying to tell you. And to make a long story short, my mom eventually came to Christ.

And my brothers, who at first laughed at me, hey, you're never going to be able to have any fun again. I was able to lead all of them to Christ. And matter of fact, our church started a Christian school. I was the first graduate. My brothers attended school. My mom was a volunteer. I mean, our whole, and then my mom, her boyfriend told her boyfriend that by that time they were living together. She said, you get out or we're getting married. So anyway, he came to Christ, and God just did a miracle in our whole family. It was just crazy. And I know the scripture teaches about a prophet not having honor among his own kin on the household, but in my situation it was totally different because they knew how bad I was.

You know what I mean? How rough and tough and, you know what I mean? Cause I was like, I was, I just hated like everybody. I felt nobody likes me. I don't like anybody. I can't stand anybody. And then all of a sudden, now I'm loving everybody. Right. And it's all because the love of Christ. See, love received is the love conceived. And whoever's listening, somebody has been trying to tell you, open up your heart to the love of God. I know, I know it seems crazy. I know, but I'm telling you, it changed my life.

Oh, so, you know, bullies, I say this a lot in in my conversation, bullies are victims, too. I believe every they don't love themselves enough to know how to love, receive love and receive God's love and love others. That's a constant in my messages. You know, I'm like and so you are a perfect example of that. Right. You all you wanted was was love. All you wanted was reason you know somebody to care enough and what a gift that they honored their call to step next door right so can i tell you a story that'll blow your mind another one it's already the church was in dolphin pennsylvania and it was 99.9 percent white i'll take it back 100 percent white

So I'm sitting on the front row. They had a bus. They would bring us on the bus. So I'm sitting on the front row, and the pastor is preaching. He says, hey, young man. He said, come here for a minute. Me, I was like, pastor, I didn't do it. God changed me. He said, no, no, you're not in trouble. He said, come here. He puts his arm around me. He starts crying. in the world. And he said, folks, we have people write letters telling me they don't want me bringing black people to this church. And they even said they will burn my house down if I don't stop it. He said, I don't know if some of you are in here. They wrote those letters. He said, but I'm telling you something now. He's crying now.

He's got his arm around. He said, this young man is not welcome here at this church because he's black. He said, if he leaves, I'm leaving with him. Charla, I remember saying, oh, no, no, no. Don't risk your church for me, man. Because still, I'm like, I ain't worth nothing. I'm like, dude, don't risk your church for me. He said, no, no. This ain't my church. He said, this is God's church. He said, this ain't a white church or black church. He said, this is God's church. And anybody who will behave is welcome here. Now, if they don't behave, but they behave, they're welcome. But when he said this, he said, anybody is welcome here. And I'm sitting there like, how is this guy going to risk his church for me?

So all this racism and prejudice and all this that I have experienced, and I know people think, oh yeah, here's the race card. You need to live where some people live, the experience you'll see for yourself. But anyway, but what I'm saying is all that now, like the people that came to get me, which by the way, I used to tell them, pick me up on the bus two blocks away. Because I didn't want to see the people in my neighborhood see me get on the bus full of white folk. I'm just going to tell you the way it is, right? And then after a couple of months, I was like, you know what? Drop me off at my house, right? I mean, just, but anyway.

But this guy, between those people coming to pick me up and this pastor, what he did, that broke me of that, you know, the white man just out to get me, no more white people, you know what I mean? And I was like, wow. And then I realized, no, this is an individual thing. There's individuals. Right? So yeah, there's individuals with hate in their heart, and some people have been trained and taught that way, right? But anyway, but I thought, and so I was like, man, this is the craziest thing. telling me about God loves me, right? And then now these people are showing me love. And then these pastors demonstrating like, like, like, Sharla, I was hooked. I was like, man,

I just got to learn to love people. I just got to learn to let God's love flow through me. And that's one of my main prayers even to the day is, and I think that's why my wife and I, by the way, have successful marriages. Like I pray daily, Lord, love Nadia through me today, because I don't have the wherewithal to love the way she needs to be loved, right? And by the way, I prayed every day, Lord, love yourself through me, right? But then, Lord, love me through you. Because I don't even know how to love myself right. And then, Lord, love my wife through me. And then, Lord, love my children through me. And then, Lord, love lost souls and my clients through me.

Because that, I think, is the greatest secret. Once people pick up that you really, really care. It's like, they're trying to figure out, this guy, he's so like, strong and hard, but he's got this, like my wife always says, she's like, baby, you're like this scary looking guy, but you're just like a teddy bear. And I'll close with this. I was with one of my sons the other day. He's like 30 or 33. I got one 33. Well, I got a bunch of them, but the 33-year-old is talking to him. And I'm like, boy, you got to learn how to put some Harris charm. I was like, dude, I was like 20. I mean, what are you waiting for to get married, man? Like, you're 30. I mean, you're handsome. You're strong. You're spiritual. You're smart.

I mean, dude, you got it all. You got your own place. Like, I don't get it, bro. And so I'm telling you, son, you got to learn to throw that Harris charm on him. And my wife's in the other room. She comes in afterwards. She said, baby, I wasn't trying to listen in on your conversation, but I overheard you. And she said, can I share something with you? And I said, well, sure. And as outgoing as I am like this, my wife's just totally the, you know, and she says, and when she talks, you almost got to lean in, right?

She said, was it your charm that got me? Ma'am? I said, it wasn't your charm. It was your heart. I call my son back. Son, forget the charm, man. Keep your heart clean. But, Charla, this world, and I think that's one of the things I picked up when I was talking to you, and that's one of the things that Zig had too, right? But if this world, if we can just get back to people with a heart, just a heart. You know, people talk about make America great again. Let's make America kind again, right? Let's just get back to kindness. Like the world, the world will be changed and transformed And I understand there's people you'll be kind to, and they're going to misjudge you, and they're going to think you're trying to get something out of them.

And I like what Mother Teresa said, but who cares? Just be kind anyway, right? Just love them anyway. But I've got to stop and let you talk.

Oh, no. Oh, my gosh. Yes. So love, God, the heart of people. This is my quote in this tiny book. Unconditional love, unconditional forgiveness, not unconditional boundaries. I add, and the harder people are to love, the more they need it, right? So love them anyway. And you don't have to have, you need boundaries. You don't have to be taken advantage of or hurt, but having, if you love is God love, because God is love. He cannot be not love.

He loves you. If you're in the gutter, He loves you. If you're a murderer, He loves you. You can't be loved less or more if God is love. He, I mean, since God is love, there is no criteria that you can't, no matter how bad you think you are, he loves you anyway.

Well, this is the month of July. I know we're not oftentimes supposed to date stuff, but I got to, because here's my two acronyms for July, because it's gone.

You're the acronym king.

But you and I, it's like the flow is like crazy. But 1st July is just unleash limitations and yield, right? And that's one of the things that my whole life I had learned to do, all these limiting beliefs, right? But what you just said, here's what July, J-U-L-Y, and folks, you need to get this. Somebody has to hear this today. Jesus unconditionally loves you. July. J-U-L-Y. Jesus unconditionally loves you. You say, but I don't believe in him. He loves you anyway. Jesus unconditionally loves you. And as you just said, and here's the way I say it, there's not a million sins nor a million acts of righteousness that can increase or decrease his love for you.

He loves you with an everlasting love because of his son, Jesus Christ. See, you listening to me today, you are, by the way, I told my wife the other day, when I wanna see a miracle, I said, baby, I just look in your eyes. And when you're not around, I just look in the mirror. And whoever's listening to me today, look in the mirror, you're looking at a miracle. You were fashioned by the hands of God in your mother's womb. And listen, you are, I like to say this, a masterpiece. Number one, because you're a piece of the master. This painting, if it's a master that painted it, you are a masterpiece. You're a piece of the master. You're a product of the master. But you're the priority of the master. The greatest book ever written says he made you just a little lower than the angels. And literally, that means he made you a little less than Elohim himself.

So when you were created, and the first man and the angels, and the Lord's like, I can't, wow, look at this. And the angel's like, oh. just like you, that you and I, male, female, that's us. So I used to walk around my head down, and I thought, but if I can accomplish some stuff, then I could put my head up. But yeah, but that was only based on when the accomplishment lasts, but when they go down. So I don't even talk about self-esteem anymore, I talk about God-esteem. And that is like this, Charla, like if I have a pen, and I drop the pen in the commode, excuse the expression, I'm flushing the commode. But I got another pen, a super expensive $100 pen. If that one goes in, I'm like, Dottie, could you help me get that out? But here's the thing.

Exactly, it's a value, right?

Seriously, it's like we fell in the commode and God says, but I'm going down and rolling up my sleeves. I'm going down in the muck and mire. I'm going down after them. That's how much he loves you. That's what gives me the strength to do what I do. That's what inspires me. That's what transformed me. A heart used to have this hard shell melded by the love of God.

You know, I just feel so humbled and honored. I mean, the divineness of this whole moment is off the charts. I mean, I don't know how to express that I'm so grateful. I live in gratitude. I mean, you've got, gratitude's the key. Love God, love others, love yourself, love others. Requires gratitude is the key and forgiveness. changes at all. And sometimes you have to forgive. You always have to forgive yourself, but you've got to forgive God as well. And then just love as God loves. If you could just let the light shine. And one way to do that is quit focusing, taking things personally, quit taking things personally. That's not about you, just love.

Actually, we're going to be theologically corrected. I know, but here's Do you really realize what's happening? I mean, shall the thing form say the thing that formed it? Why hast thou made me thus? It really comes back to you've got to forgive yourself for thinking so high of yourself, that thinking you were created. By the way, we were created for His pleasure. We have to understand that, right? But so what I had to learn to do is forgive the ideal that I had that I thought God was supposed to act the way I wanted him to act. Like, really, me? Like, like...

So I had to learn to even forgive myself, allow myself to think in such a way. But I know we live in a generation like that where, you know, you're talking about narcissists. Boy, we have been. And that's another thing. If you take I and turn it into we, it turns the word illness into wellness. And so even Jesus said, when you pray, say, our father, not my father. So we've got to get from that I to a we. And so let me get this illustration. I don't know. We were supposed to be done, but we got so excited.

We got about two minutes before I think the hour is up. So let's, oh, you got it there.

So this is people in life, OK?

Yeah. Explain what you're doing so the audio is.

You can't see, but you can hear. So I have a glass in front of me, water in it. I have a lighter. It's lit. I can move it. And what happens is some of us might, we've been the flames. And we've been drowned in the water, so I put the lighter in the water. So now what happens is, when I try, and these are some people in light. Charla, Charla, I'm listening to your show. I'm trying to get fired up. I'm trying to get motivated. I'm trying to get inspired. And the wick is wet. It won't even light. It won't even, nothing happens. And so those of us who are on fire, If we just touch against them, bam, now it lights. And so what I like to do is go around. But here's what happens.

After a while, they go, oh, and guess what? Still won't light though. And they're like, Charla, I've listened to you. I've read your book. I'm trying. And so, but watch this. When you connect with us, and when we come together, that light burns brighter. And so what I know is this. Give this lighter a day or two. the wick will dry out and it'll be. But sometimes you just need to be connected to somebody else. Sometimes you just need somebody else's encouragement. Sometimes you just need that. And as hard as you try, nothing happens.

I'm clicking, nothing happens. And so Charla, that's why I love what you're doing, because your show is that for somebody. And I think today we've done that.
